Inefficient operation waste water treatment plant

The operations of the WWTP can be more efficient.

The membrane bioreactor (MBR) of the WWTP in Ootmarsum was set to a fixed capacity, only with choice of minimal, nominal or maximum. This was controled by the influent flow rate. Other available parameters, which contain information about the condition of the membranes, were not included in this.

This SMART-regulation controls the capacity of the MBR installation itself, and it keeps the membrane contamination in balance. This results in less disturbance and less work load for the operator. Because the system optimizes the capacity to the circumstances, the water is purified in an energy efficient way.

  • Addition to the existing system and therefore easy to implement at other WWTPs.
  • The operator can modify the regulation and, when needed, bypass it.
  • To save energy, the capacity is set low by the algorithm in case of dry weather supply.
  • The capacity is set high by the algorithm to increase the permissible supply in case of rainy weather.
