Issue

Unused useful matter sewage treatment plant

Sewagewater contains many nutrients that are not or not optimally used.

In the Netherlands, 180.000 ton toilet paper is flushed annually, which has to be degraded in sewage treatment plants. This requires a large amount of energy.

Solution

VAZENA - new raw material from wastewater

In the VAZENA project, paper fibre from toilet paper in wastewater is used as a new raw material. The paper fibres are extracted as cellulose and can have various appliciations such as in road construction. The first application of the recycled toilet paper took place when building a bicycle highway in Jelsum, Friesland.
