Waterproblems find their solutions
There is a lack of adequate quantities of water of a sufficient quality. In the greenhouse area in Nootdorp, there is often a water shortage in dry periods. To compensate, brackish water is extracted from the ground and desalinated. This is an expensive and often unsustainable solution.
ASR-Coastal is an underground water storage technique where freshwater surpluses are purified and then stored underground in water containing layers, via vertical ground water wells. The freshwater forms a bubble in the surrounding brackish groundwater and water can be withdrawn for irrigation in dry periods.
- Due to the underground water storage, little space is used above ground.
- Quality of water is maintained.
- Water surpluses can be stored and used on site.
- Prevents salinization.
- The technology can be applied on a wide scale, for example in the city, in combination with drinking water and the industry.
