Waterproblems find their solutions
An increased flood hazard because the flood defence does not meet the requirements and/or due to extreme conditions.
The dyke near Gameren is prone to piping. Water flows through the sandlayer underneath the dyke due to differences in water levels on both sides. This waer carries sand causing small channels to form and undermine the dyke.
Dyke reinforcement with the coarser sand barrier
Coarse sand is placed on the bottom of the landside of the dyke. The barrier interrupts the sand transport without hampering the waterflow, counteracting the piping.
