Nitrate in groundwater

Water pollution

Damage to nature and environment caused by pollution of water.

The quality of ground- and surface water is influenced, for an important part, by agriculture. Nutrients from fertilizer are partially absorbed by crops, and partially flushed out. This deteriorates the water quality. Fertilizer contains nitrogen and phosphate, which turns into nitrate. Nitrate can have negative effects on human health, and it can cause eutrophication. It also causes for less nutrients to be available for the crops, which in turn causes extra expenses for farmers.

Nitrate app

With this app, a farmer can easily gain insight into the water quality on his own grounds. This makes it possible for farmers to adhere to the environmental laws. With the insights gained from the Nitrate app, the farmer can adjust management of the business in such a way that nitrogen loss is further limited.

  • The farmer becomes more conscious of the quality of the groundwater
  • Measurements can be motivated with measures to reduce the loss of nitrate
