Monitoring dynamics in dune area limited

Print Email

Flood hazard

An increased flood hazard because the flood defence does not meet the requirements and/or due to extreme conditions.

The dunes are assigned Natura 2000 status. To reach the goals set for flora and fauna, necessary measures are taken which cause for more dynamics (the moving of sand) in the dunes. The current monitoring is limited because it has to be done by people.

Inspecting dunes using drones

The RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System) is a drone which can be used to monitor the movement of sand in the dunes. It can determine the toe of the dune, and monitor the growth of the seawall with the sea level. This takes away the limitations of the current monitoring method.

  • Can be used in hard-to-reach areas
  • Deployment and interpretation of data gained can be done quickly
  • Because the flight level of drones is relatively low, the level of detail of the recordings is high
  • Done can help the administrator help check the position of developments on the beach
