Flood hazard

An increased flood hazard because the flood defence does not meet the requirements and/or due to extreme conditions.

The shore along the Nauernasche Vaart did not suffice to the stability requierements for a length of 4 kilometers with the risk of inward macro instability. Normally the water ditch on the other side of the shore ensures stability but in times of drought it actually may cause the instability. In these times the ditch is usually filled up with sand or clay and a new ditch is digged. However, because of a lack of space and the vulnarability of the dike, heavy construction tools could not reach the location and this could not be applied.

Solution

Innovative sand spraying

The essence of the sand spraying technology is that sand is sprayed in the ditch without removing the layer of dredge. Sand gets sprayed on top of the dredge and covers it completely. The pressure made by the sand from out the ditch strengthens the dike and makes it stable.
