Issue

The potential of the area is not fully utilized

The area is not optimally managed, used or spatially arranged.

There is a lack of space in densely populated delta regions such as Rotterdam. Areas outside the dikes could be used for new constructions, however this is not yet possible due to the risks of floods.

Solution

Floating Pavilion

The floating pavilion, located in Rotterdam, is a floating construction consisting out of three half-spheres. The aim of the pavilion is to increase the awareness about the possibilities of floating constructions. This building technique enables building in undiked areas and reduces the flood risk for buildings.
