Issue
Insufficient water quality
The quality of the water is insufficient.
The water in the lakes near Loosdrecht contains a lot of peat sludge. This causes problems for sunlight to penetrate into the water, which has a negative influence to the water quality. The redundant sludge is being removed from the water by dredging activities. Besides that, the peat fields in the area require maintenance.
Solution
Peat field restoration by using local sludge
A new technique is used which combines peat field restoration with dredging activities. The redundant sludge from the lakes in the area is being used to restore the peat fields. By doing this, two problems are being solved simultaneously.
