Insufficient water quality

The quality of the water is insufficient.

City waters and the trees surrounding them are important elements for the climate adaption of cities. Leaf from the trees often ends up in the water. This causes sediment to grow in the waterway, because of this dredging activities are needed. Dredging in city waters has a negative influence to the water quality.

The Leaf Fall Model

The Leaf Fall Model is a model which predicts the quantity of leaf fall per square meter waterway. By doing this it is possible for water managers to find locations where removing the leaf is necessary to prevent the growth of sediment.

  • Leaf is removed from the water more efficiently (10% to 20%).
  • Yearly costs for dredging activities due to leaf fall is reduced by 25%.
  • It is expected that less quality problems in the water occur.
  • The Leaf Fall Model is widely applicable.
