Insufficient dike height

Flood hazard

An increased flood hazard because the flood defence does not meet the requirements and/or due to extreme conditions.

The dike in Den Oever does not meet the safety standards. During extreme weather conditions there is a chance of overflow and stability problems. The 900 meter dike should be raised 3 meters and widened because of this. This causes spatial issues and therefore resistance from inhabitants of the village.

Stair shaped dike covering

The stair shaped dike covering causes the waves to break and not go up the dike as much. Because of this, the dike has to be elevated only 1.5 meters instead of 3 meters. The cover is placed on the outside slope of the dike.
