Waterproblems find their solutions

Flood hazard
Issue
Flood hazard
An increased flood hazard because the flood defence does not meet the requirements and/or due to extreme conditions.
The safety of the dike along the river Maas upstream from Waspik is insufficient for the future. The river can be dangerous for 's-Hertogenbosch and other cities and villages along the river during high water.
Solution
River enlargement
River enlargement means the river is given more space when high water occurs. The dike of the river Bersche Maas at the Overdiepse Polder at Waspik is lowered, this allows river water to flow into the polder during high water. This induces a water level decline of 27 cm on site and approx. 10 cm at 's-Hertogenbosch. Because of this, cities and villages upstream from the polder are safer. The most important functions of inhabitation, working, agriculture and animal husbandry in the polder remain preserved due to a "mounds plan".
