Flood hazard

An increased flood hazard because the flood defence does not meet the requirements and/or due to extreme conditions.

Traditional dyke reinforcements are expensive, therefore alternative solutions are considered.


Sandy foreshore

The pilot sandy foreshore Houtribdijk innovative options for dyke reinforcement are considered. Large quantities of sand are used to construct a sandy foreshore in front of the dyke. This reduces the forces of the waves against the dyke, which therefore does not have to be raised.
