Dike rejected on stability

Issue

Flood hazard

An increased flood hazard because the flood defence does not meet the requirements and/or due to extreme conditions.

The "Lekdijk" (dike) does not meet the safety requirements for stability and has to be strengthened. There is not enough space available in the village Streefkerk to strengthen the dike in a traditional way. Besides that, houses along the dike can not be damaged.

Solution

Dike improvement with anchored drill piles

Drill piles are concrete piles which are shaped in the ground with a length of 25m and a diameter of 1m. The piles are applied at the inner side of the dike. By doing this, shearing of the dike is prevented and the stability of the dike is guaranteed. The drill piles can be applied with little vibration to prevent nuisance and damage to the surrounding houses.

Pros

  • Applicable at places with little available space.
  • Applicable with little vibration and a small chance of damage to surroundings.
