Waterproblems find their solutions

Difficult migration of fish
Issue
Insufficient fish migration
The free migration of fish is obstructed.
Migration between polders and rivers, and between fresh and salt water is particularly difficult for fish because of the numerous migration barriers in the form of pumping stations, locks and dams. For example, the eel threatens to go extinct if no measures are taken to restore the fish migration routes. However, little is known about the current supply of inland migratory species and the migration routes to the hinterland. This makes it difficult to take appropriate measures.
Solution
Unite for the eel
In order to gain a better understanding of the routes of certain types of eels, the supply of (migratory) fish is monitored in the spring of 2015, 2016 and 2017 for various fish migration bottlenecks between the delta waters and the hinterland. With the knowledge gained from this research, the management of artworks and of realized and future fish passages can be better attuned to the needs of fish.
