Insufficient water quality due to a nutrient overkill.

The Sloterplas suffers from water with a low transparency and the water contains a lot of blue algae. The quality of the water is insufficient and does not meet the requirements of the water framework directive targets.

Mussel Power

Quagga mussels are able to filter water. By letting them grow at the most effective places you can improve the quality of water. Quagga mussels can be used in three different ways: a quagga filter, a quagga island or by placing them on a piece of shallow bottom. The filter consist of nets on which the mussels can settle.

  • Low recurring costs after first implementation.
  • Can be used everywhere where the larvae of the quagga mussel already lives. This is almost everywhere in the Netherlands.
  • All used materials are made in a sustainable way, there is no need of energy or resources after the installment.
